Human Rights Campaign Signature Speaker Series—The Economic Case for LGBT Equality: A conversation with Dr. Lee Badgett and Bob Witeck

Homophobia and transphobia harm LGBTQ people in countless ways. One of the world’s leading LGBTQ economics and theorists argues that the true cost to all of us are even greater.

In conversation with LGBTQ business leader Bob Witeck, Dr. Lee Badgett will share the compelling research she has explored on the consequences of anti-LGBTQ practices around the world – and specifically how our economies lose when we miss out on the full contributions made by LGBTQ people. Unequal laws, discrimination on the job and in the workplace, harassment and bullying in school, violence and hate crimes on the streets, exclusion from intolerant families and the health effects of stigma make it incredibly difficult to live good and rewarding lives – all ways that diminish the full economic benefits of LGBTQ inclusion in every community.
